Letter To the editor:
It's so easy to make travel plans over the Internet, isn't it? A few clicks and you can reserve a seat on a plane, get a rental car, book a hotel room and print your boarding pass. You're all set, right?
Well, maybe not.
A recent trip by one of my family members has me rethinking the so-called ease of the Internet. Our daughter was scheduled to fly home on Northwest Airlines last Friday morning, ahead of the brunt of the storm, we were told. Her original flight later in the day was canceled, but we were able to book her "the last seat on the last flight out".
I tracked the flight as I headed to pick her up. Then the complications started and they did not stop for one minute for more than 24 hours.
Her flight returned to Detroit after circling over Logan for a while. Once back inside the terminal, she joined some 300 others in an effort to use the "rebooking" terminals and get a refund. She was unable to retrieve her checked suitcase from Northwest. She was told it would be flown to Boston at an undetermined time, even if she wasn't going.
So there she stood at the airport without the ability to get her suitcase, or any plan to get home. We were stuck.
It was getting toward evening, but I thought I'd take a chance and call a professional. I called Concord Travel and Angela Rowe picked up the phone on the first ring, heard our predicament and immediately went to work handling every detail, keep in contact with out daughter and us. She was not in the least bit unsure of what to do, and she even anticipated problems and solved them before they cropped up.
The story ended up well, thanks to Angela and her knowledge of the travel industry, and not least, her professional yet caring demeanor. She even called our house the next day to see that it all worked out. Trying getting an ounce of personal attention from your computer. Thanks Angela, and you can expect a call in the future next we are planning a trip.
